A lavish hotel, featuring a peaceful minimalist garden.

The InterContinental Kuala Lumpur is one of the capital’s many grand high-rise hotels located within walking distance of the nation’s most symbolic architectural feature, the Petronas Twin Towers.

Entering the hotel lobby, guests immediately get the impression that they are in the lap of luxury. Further in is a peaceful minimalist garden enveloped by the hotel’s stately structure. Natural light permeates the rooms surrounding it, making the garden impossible to overlook.

In 2015, landscape designers from SeriGreen redesigned the space to present a ‘clean and fresh’ look. Careful not to crowd the area, SeriGreen thoughtfully selected a modest collection of flora that would allow greater emphasis on the magnificent water features.

The brief.

In late 2014, we started working with The InterContinental management team on the redesign project.

The brief was simple. The InterContinental wanted a fresh new look, they want it to be easily maintained, minimally designed, and last but not least, add a touch of Malaysian element into the overall design.

Finding beauty in simplicity.

SeriGreen come out with minimalist garden concept with a touch of traditional Malaysian element with the installation of a wooden bridge. The curvy form of white loose pebble stone symbolizes a river that flowing to the pond.

From the initial concept of a contemporary tropical garden design, we proposed for a full redesign to a minimalist based garden as it better accentuates the space where the landscape will be installed. To further instill the Malay traditional element into the whole design, SeriGreen’s talented woodwork team carved subtle Malay traditional floral designs onto the bridges handrail.

To simplify and reduce maintenance work, we beat the problem areas by employing hardscape elements. They’re long-lasting, which cuts down on maintenance time. The landscaping solutions offered by stonework, for instance, form an impressive list. Unlike plants, hardscape needs neither water nor sun, nor do you have to prune it or clean up after it.

We love our plants. And we love to display them. We provide The InterContental Hotel with a number of plants to display and to further enhance their looks, free of charge.

The Outcome.

When we accepted the project, we have high expectation of ourselves to deliver the project on time and within budget. We’re proud to say that we exceeded all expectations that we set upon ourselves and by the management team of the InterContinental Hotel.

At SeriGreen,  a completed project is not a finished project. We constantly strive to find ways of improving ourselves. We believe we’re doing it right as we have been maintaining the garden since 2009.
